Like so many others, I just joined this great site, but I have been frequently visiting for the last 5 months. This site and the other offer so much information it is incredible.

With the help of this site I chose to order a browning buckmark pistol (for cheap practice) and a colt 1991.

This question is for all the dealers that visit, is colt between production runs of the 1991? I asked for the gun a good 4 months ago, but the distributor that I would be getting it from hasn't had any in since a week before I decided to order it. If more information on who my ffl owner goes through will help I can include it, but I figured the dealers that deal alot of 1911's may have a good idea.

The guy can go through a different distributor, but I think the wholesale price was a little higher. I'm not in a big hurry to get it, but now it is getting pretty rediculous.

Any ideas?

I had the same issue when I orderer a High Cap Springfield. I paid for it and had to wait about 6 weeks. I called Springfield and the lady told me it matters what distributor your dealer goes through on the turn around time. Good choice on the 1911 and I am sure when you get it it will be worth the wait. Some manufactures will make a run on a model they offer the after a certain number is made they will start another run on a different model. Then those will be sent to the different distributors the dealers deal with. Welcome to the forum.

The way Kathy at Colt Customer Service explained it to me, the factory doesn't have enough assembly lines to be constantly producing all models. So they produce a "run" of certain models, stick them in a warehouse, then switch over the production lines and produce a run of some other models. I imagine they try to match production to anticipated demand, but that's probably more black magic than hard science, so I expect it is entirely possible that there could be some gaps when they run out of certain models before the next run is shceduled.

Sounds about right, if I remember correctly the distributors local warehouse was out and they never know when a type of gun will be arriving. The funny thing is, it sounds like the distributor on a national level won't ship anything to my local warehouse, that or they are out too. Once again, thanks for the help.
