Just bought a Norinco and two mags for $279

Well, it arrived today and I am a little disappointed. It seems to have some minor pitting or some type of metal imperfection near the muzzle on the top and side of the slide.

The rest of the gun is 100%, but the bad spots are visually noticable. I can bearly feel the imperfections if I run my finger over it. Would something like this disappear if I had it parkerized or something like that?

Send it out for a refinishing job, either parkerized or blueing. At the same time, have a decent set of sights installed, and you will have a great gun, at a great price.

Well now I would not go and refinish it unless you are going to customize the gun with modifications bringing it up to combat specs. I mean the usual beaver tail safety, skeleton hammer, Novak tritium sights, perhaps improve the trigger, safety and slide release. Lower and flare ejection port.etc.Things along that line....If you are going to do all that then yeah, a refinish makes sense. However if you just want a shooter leave it as is. Few people sadly realize how well made these chinese guns were made hence it can be hard to get your money back out of them. If you refinish it you will add $75+ to your cost and then your $279 purchase ceases to be a bargain. You then have too much in a Norinco 1911 that will clearly be refinished since pitting is hard to hide.. But if you are going to build on it then it makes more sense to worry about cosmetics. Otherwise just use it for blasting away with 230gr. ball. Just my 2 cents. Tim

Good advice from gopguy and John. I certainly would consider replacing the sights as John suggested. Beyond that unless you are doing a full customize thing I would leave it as is. I have a Hi-Power that has the same small imperfections. At one time I was going to have it nickeled and all that. Decided to make it a carry piece and leave as is. May take my own advice and replace the tiny sights that someone at FN thinks are decent and install a set of Novaks.
