I just purchased a Rock Island 1911. After field stripping the pistol for the first time, I ran thru the function test. When I got to the Thumb Saftey portion I noticed that the trigger was a little spongey and the hammer fell to half cock when the thumb saftey was removed.

Anyone have any ideas? is this an easy fix or did I get a lemon?

If NIB, get with manufacturer. If used, get to a gunsmith ASAP. Any gun with a safety that does not work correctly is not safe. If you have any knowledge of the 1911a1, you could probably install a new thumb safety, but remember that "drop-in" parts may not be direct drop ins. A GS should check it out.

Good luck
