Here is a new 1991 series blue Colt Commander I have been customizing. I removed the plastic flat mainspring housing and added an arched all steel mainspring housing. I replaced the rosewood grips with some custom made double diamond black micarta grips with gold Colt medallions. Last but not least, I had Jim Garthwaite install his Gold Bead Sight System. I wanted to keep it as traditional looking as possible so the front sight is staked not dovetailed. The pistol has a unique look with everything dark colored except for the gold Colt medallions and the gold bead front sight.

Very nice - keeps the original look and feel, but you get the little things that are important to you. I share your enthusiam for Colt Commanders!

Thanks I appreciate the compliment. The only thing on it now I'm not real big on is the long trigger. I'd prefer a medium length solid trigger but I didn't have any when I was working on it. The long trigger feels ok but it just looks odd to me.

You are right the long trigger looks out of place. I like the arched mainspring housing and a short trigger, second choice would be a medium trigger. That would be some nice if it were 9mm.

I kept the nylon MSH and added a long trigger plus some Ajax grips to mine which was made in 1991 in the center under a GCNM and above a Defender.

Look'n good! I feel the same way about the trigger. :D

Thanks for the compliments guys. I can't tell you how great the gold bead sight system is. I can see again.

Nice result, Landman. As for the sight modifications, the gold bead system looks like it would solve the problem we old timers face. What was sharp and clear in our younger years changes for each of us at differing rates. And it eventually gets us all. Not to mention the arthritis, loss of muscle tone...etc....ENJOY!!!

Great job on that Commander.
I'm selling mine because I just can't bring myself to mod the sights.
Once again I bought "too nice" of a pistol.
You'd think I'd learn by now.

I've probably already seen it in another thread but let's see a picture of yours here, Doc.

Someone else can cut and grind on it, but it won't be me. ;)

Yep, that's definitely one I would never change a thing on. Beautiful pistol.
The reason I bought this new Commander was so I wouldn't feel guilty about tinkering with it.
