Ive been eyeing the SA parked 1911 milspec for awhile now, its just so damn sexy! Ive read/heard mixed things about them though so i wanna get my facts straight before i buy.

1. SA uses a smaller firing pin/extractor than GI guns and the extractor COULD cause problems. (planning on replacing extractor with a GI one)
2. aside from the barrel/slide/frame all the other parts are cast or MIM.
3. SA imports all the forged parts above mentioned from brazil via imbel (i have no problem with imbel and consider them one of the better arms makers of the world).
4. i have also read that the mil-spec is imported from brazil?
5. they can be picky with mags.(planning on getting some CMC mags)
6. the plastic grips suck ( ive already bought a set of smooth cocobolo grips off ebay from DR.miller for 15 bucks shipped, not the best finish but can be fixed with alittle sanding, check him out).
7. feed ramp/barrel throat may need polishing (i have a dremil and a felt head)
8. the ILS ( i dont really think it will get in the way so ill leave it in, plus texas requires all firearms to have locks or be locked in a safe if you have children under age 17 living in your home. Its gonna be my night stand gun so i can unlock it before i got to bed).

Does that about cover it?

The Mil-Spec is a great value for a 1911, as for your list.........

1) True, smaller firing pin as they use the 38/9mm type in them. Haven't heard of the smaller extractor though.
2) Not sure on all the parts, am sure about the frame & slide.
3) True
4) See 3 & 4 above.
5) Use a quality mag with a solid poly type follower like Wilson or the McComick power mags.
6) Amen - but matter of choice.
7) No No No No No.......oh.......did I mention NO!? Resist with all your strength to use your dremel........even with a felt head. Use 320 and above emory cloth or the like, then finish it up with 600. And do it by hand.
8) The ILS really doesn't hurt gun performance much, its the 28lb main spring that everyone notices.

Go forth and have fun with your new Mil-Spec..........
