I have a 1911 with a serial number of No. 9561 - it is stamped on the right side of the weapon below the slide. On the right hand side of the slide, it is stamped "Model Of 1911. U.S. Army." On the left hand side of the slide, there is a circle with the Colt symbol stamped near the rear of the slide, and towards the front of the slide, it is stamped " Patented Apr. 20 1897,Sept. 9, 1902. Dec 19, 1905. Feb 14, 1911." In between, it is stamped "Colt's PT. F.A. Mfg Co. Hartford, CT U.S.A." Below the slide on the left hand side it is stamped United States Property. I found this weapon amongst my father's gun collection - can anyone tell me about this weapon?

It was born in 1912 and is part of a run by Colt for the Army.
The slide is for a later pistol, 1914-1918.
Lots of good info on the correct small parts here. http://www.coolgunsite.com/ Just click the ID pages link.
This post will be moved for you to the USGI section. You'll get good info there, too.

Why do you say the slide is for a later pistol? The circled Colt is a feature of early guns. Don't later guns also have a 1913 patent date on the slide?

Your 1911 was shipped November 1, 1912 to San Antonio Arsenal. From your description the slide sounds correct.
