This has probably be asked several times before but any thoughts on assembling a parts kit for a 1911 A1 and it's contents?

I've been there and done it. I would suggest someone doing this only after they are totally familiar with the 1911a1. You do not save money by trying to assemble one from parts. I would suggest that one try to get a used SA and get Kuhnhausen's book. With careful purchasing, you could come out cheaper than assembling a 1911a1 from parts.

Stumbler,
Thanks for the reply.
I have Kuhnhausen's books and the AGI and Wilson's tapes on the subject.
I am not trying to assemble a 1911 from parts but trying to ascertain what spare parts to keep on hand as a "parts kit".

I would have replacement springs for everything. Firing pins have been known to break. A replacement extractor (or two). There has also been talk of mag releases breaking, so I would get one of those. Extra grip screws. And definitely a thumb safety that has been fitted. Extra plunger tube and parts (you never know).
Good Luck

Stumbler,
Thanks for the input. I didn't think of the plunger tube and parts.
