I have a shooter grade 1911A1. It consists of an Ithaca frame with most of the markings intact and SN 2120XXX. It appears to have been polished and blued. The slide is where the questions lie. There is a serial number under the firing pin retainer which is 154533 and it appears to have a 1911 type rear sight. What is the origin of the slide? All markings other than the serial number have apparently been polished off. Also, the barrel is marked COLT 45 AUTO on the left side near the link area and the letter P on the link area itself. Any info as to the origin of the slide is appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Photos would certainly help. Are you sure about the number on the slide?

First number, if a Colt military slide, should be 7, 8 or 9 instead of the 1.

My digital will not take a close enough picture to see the serial number. The first number could possibly be a 7 but the top part of the number is tilted down and the leg appears to be straighter than a seven might be. It does not look like the seven in the serial number of the example at the Cool Gun Site reference pages. I can provide other pictures of the pistol if so desired, just not close enough to read the serial number on the slide. Thanks

When Colt's serial numbers went over 1,000,000, the first four digits were above the firing pin hole while the last three were under it.

On this slide there are three numbers above the hole and three below it. The point of contention is the shape of the first number and if it is a seven or a one. By the references, it must be a seven, but it does not look like the seven on the reference page.

Here's one to compare it to....

I have a fairly decent picture of my serial number but am unable to post it here. I will have to assume that it is a poorly stamped seven.

thanks
