I just got my hands on a nice M1911 and am interested in getting a good book on this fine weapon. Any ideas on who has a good one to buy?
Thanks.

“Collectors Guide to Colt .45 Service Pistols, Models of 1911 and 1911A1” by Charles W. Clawson.
"The Model 1911 and Model 1911A1 Military and Commercial Pistols" by Joe Poyer.

When you go to coolgunsite.com to order the Collectors Guide by Clawson also get the CD that was put together by Karl Karash that is loaded with great examples of every 1911 and 1911A1 ever made. Another very valuable learning tool. I believe that the cost of the book and CD together is $60.00

Has anyone read the book by Poyer? How does it stack up against Clawson's books?

I have a copy, Steve, haven't been all the way through it yet. It's good, but Mr. Clawson is still numero uno as far as I'm concerned. ;)

Make sure you buy the 3rd edition Clawson Collector's Guide. It is the book with the most current information.
I've also got Poyer's book. I agree it's okay, but I still prefer and recommend Clawson's.

Steve:
I knew at one time, but have forgotten. I've got both books and will try to look to see in the next few days. Or...I may save myself the trouble and just call Chuck and ask for a refresher.
I know there were both additions and corrections.

+1 Clawson is still the benchmark.
