I'm considering purchasing this from a friend, it belonged to his step father. All the markings on the frame and barrel indicated this was built at the Remington Rand factory. The slide has me a bit confused. Obviously it's not the original slide and I was wondering how much that affects it's value.

Your opinions are very much appreciated.

note, the armory stamp is very faint and I couldn't get it to show up but it is there.

Thanks,
Gary

Welcome to the Fourm

Not uncommon to see a M1911A1 with a mismatched slide. Tools of the trade, and USGI armorers replaced parts and components as they saw fit. Alot of A1s came out of military service in mixmaster configuration, such as yours. Hard to see a s/n to confirm RRand production, but the mixture of Colt components is pretty evident. Compared to a original, correct RRand example, the value is about half.

Thanks for the info! The serial number is 1482XXX. What would be a fair price to offer?

Your serial number is RRand, 1944 production. I think $800.- is fair for a USGI mixmaster.

The slide was made by Colt's in the early 1950s and sold to the U.S. Govt. to be used for rebuilds about the time of the Korean War.

The markings on the slide are commercial, but the finish was Parkerized for military use.

Thanks for the information. There aren't any stamps on the slide like on the frame and barrel, does this put any holes in the Korean War rebuild scenario?

Unfortunately, there is no way to know specifically if/when it might have been rebuilt or re-isued last. We just know when the slides were sold to the govenment.
