Information on my 1911

Hello, I am wondering what anyone can tell me about my 1911.

It states United States Property. Model of 1911 U.S. ARMY.

It has a "No 198XXX" the o has a line under it, and the 1 looks very different from the rest of the numbers. The grips are wood and it needs a serious cleaning.

You have a Colt 1911 that was shipped either on Dec. 5, 1917 or Dec 8, 1917 depending on what the last three numbers are in the serial number. The "ones" in the serial number often times are different looking than the rest of the numbers, either higher or lower down on the line. That is normal. Show us some pictures and we can tell you a whole lot more about it.
