View Full Version : Where to find 14 round .45 acp magazines?
RobTN

Where is the best place to purchase original 14 round factory magazines for a full-size Bul M5 in .45acp? I have searched and haven't found any sources for factory magazines. Also, are there aftermarket magazines that work reliably?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

RobTN, the thirteen round Mec-Gar magazine for a Kimber Ten-II high capacity series pistol should work. When Kimber first came out with the polymer pistol, it was made by BUL.

My kimber has the bul polymer frame and I got a bunch of para P14 mags for about $20 a pop. You will have to cut about 1 -2 mm off the top of the magazine catch slot because the frames catch is a little higher than the P14 but a little work to the magazine and you will save a lot of $$$$. Try and see. It is a whole lot cheaper than spending $40 -$50 for a after market mag.
Does anyone know how I can get sponsored by bul?

Will the Kimber TenII mags fit the M5 without mods?

I haven' tried any kimber mags except for the one that came with the gun when I purchased it. I know factory kimber mags aren't cheap and neither are the after markets. The only reason why I suggest using para is because they aren't entirely too expensinve.

I just got an email from CD customer service and they said the M5 hi cap mags are due into their inventory in October.
I am not holding my breath but it is a key factor to making a decision to get an m-5

I have "heard" that STI/SVI mags will work in the round trigger guard BULs. I hate to say something that I don't know for sure.

I bought Kimber hi cap (13round) mags - made by MecGar and they work great!

I'm pretty sure MecGar makes the mags for Kimber now--I think you'll find the Kimbers are 13 round.
That said, I've found the MecGar ParaOrd mags do take the slight mod to the latch slot and will work good.
I just tried both STI and Infinity mags in my Pro Carry Ten II, the STIs are pretty tight going in and some of the followers stop the slide when trying to release it with an empty mag. Infinity mags are pretty much the same dimension as my factory Kimber 14 round mags, but the same comment applies about the followers.

Thanx for the update i was curious because of what i have read since deciding i like the feel of the daly M5 at the shop that has one here in Denver.I dig some digging and found a supply of para mags for 20 bucks and daly mags for 40 bucks which is way cheaper than goin thru Daly to get em and from what i have read they never have em.The Bul Trans website hasnt been updated in 3 years or better and there hasnt been much activity on the Daly website either.Therees a big gun show comin up first weekend in february here i'll keep my eyes peeled for some there. And posibly some parts.I'm thinkin this might be one of those guns that vanishes and is reborn after a while under a new name.

It is a really great pistol. I am sure that they will be very rare. With all the stuff going on in the middle east - they are difficult to get. I love mine and it is one of the most accurate and fun to shoot 1911's I own.

Hi Kimbershooter,
Do you have a "Kimber Polymer Target"?
I just bought one of those and discovered I cannot get magazines in Sweden, in fact I can not get magazines in europe! ! !
Your trick of cutting down p14 magazines sounds great, could you pretty please post a pic of what you had to do so I can check out if I could manage the procedure without messing it up.
I suppose I could even get p14 mags with 20 rounds if this works on my Kimber Polymer Target =)
Now THAT would be swell!
he he
But I need to know if it is the same Kimber Polymer Target you have so I dont order anything that doesnt fit to begin with...
I would deeply apreciate your help mate!

Silverbullit;
here are some photos of 2 of my MecGar ParaOrd (MG14-45)magazines-the top one in each picture is the one modified to latch into the Kimber polymer frames.

This one shows the modified and "as manufactured"-modified by removal of about 1/16" on the top of the latch slot. This is just a go-slow-with a lot of trying until it does latch and then just a slight bit more.

I have early, late mags manufactured by Kimber/Bul and 10 round mags manufactured during our "ban" and they all fit every poly framed gun I've tried them in. The frames are all the same spec in the mag chute.
You should be able to find Italian manufactured MecGar somewhere over there.
Sorry about the blurry pics

Blessed are "Swampertwo" because he helps out his mates!
Thanks Swampertwo, looks great.
(The first pic was a bit fuzzy so I am not sure what I am looking at, but the last picture is the mod and it seems I can do that to, he he!
I am looking for some magazines and do your mod on'em =)
I found some P14 20 Round magazines on midwayusa.com,
I will try to order these.
However I am not sure they will send magazines to me since they have midwaysweden here, the mags will cost me about three times more here, the same mags =(
Kimber wrote me they apparantly have two different hi-cap magazines of wich only one will fit my "Kimber Polymer Target", strange huh?
I hold my thumbs and I will try to somehow order six or so P14 20 Rounds from US. =)
Thank you again my friend!

I just got 5 of these in today and they ALL fit my Kimber Ten with the early square trigger guard BUL Frame.
$22.95 ea
They say 14rd, but 13 is the lucky number. Number 14 is hard to seat and makes the mag hard to seat in the frame.
They are ACT Italian mags. I'll let you know how they function.

Just got back from the range having tried some of the ACT CDNN Bul M5/Kimber ACT 14 round mags in my Kimber BP. Worked great. I also like the ACT P14 mags better than the genuine Para Ordnance in my Armscor 1911-A2 and Para P14, so I fully expected them to work 100% and was not disappointed.
No more filing Mec-Gar 13-round mag catch cutouts! I refused to pay Kimber $40 for a $20 magazine with the notch a couple of mm higher.
