Hello fellow enthusiasts. I recently acquired my second 1911. The slide is marked Remington Rand. Other than the serial number of the firearm, there are no usual inspector marks that I'm familiar with. There are no usual commercial colt markings, it is not marked United States Property. The slide / frame interface is the smoothest and tightest that I have encountered. The front strap has been stippled, I have seen this pattern used by military armorers and I once saw an article about Camp Perry 1911's that had the same pattern and technique. The barrel is marked NM7791414 and the lug area is marked MP on one side and 16447on the reverse. This number does not match the ser # of the firearm. The barrel bushing is marked 7267718NM. The frame is marked 257xxx-C (the C and the dash intersect). The story goes it was assembled back in the 50's on the west coast at a military base. I have no idea if this is true or not. Could you wise fellows advise me about this 1911, it shoots sweet and is in very good condition. I know its worth my $500 investment, IMHO anyhow :)

257xxx-C is a Commercial receiver.

Yes OD that was my first assumption, but due to the lack of commercial markings and the parkerized finish, I still think this is a military 1911. May I send you a photo in a PM?? Or do I need an email address?

I don't believe this is a military pistol. Too many commercial components. If you will refer to Bill Jenkin's book on Military National Match pistols you will see the differences. All too many USGI armorer copycats try and duplicate NM examples due to the fact that parts and components can easily be sourced from time to time. In this case I think someone just wanted to build a good shooting, military style .45 which you have already confirmed.

A Military type Match 1911 would have a Miccro or a Bomar rear sight, this gun has a MMC fixed rear sight. The plated trigger Series 70?.
I'd of paid 500 for it.

Thank you kindly all of you that have replied. It looks like I have a good shooter built on a colt frame. I am certainly not disappointed. It's funny how there is always a story with a firearm when you buy it....some you believe and others....well.....
