I recently(today) saw an AA marked rebuild with a 4 digit(X19xx) serial number with a X prefix.Slide is Colt, frame has eagles head on it. The 45 is fair-looks like a poor cold blue re-blue.
Can't find much information on these "X" guns. The serial number is hand stamped-price about $600. Any ideas ?? This gun is kindly rough. It it worth it as a shooter.... money is always tight. Thanks Cappy

It must have been rebuilt at least twice. The X 19XX number would have been put on at Springfield Armory. The AA rebuild would have come after that. They are an interesting variation, but also a good way to legitimize a pistol with a missing serial number.

I think the pistol sounds like something to stay away from. I've seen far more X-numbered guns that I think are bogus than legitimate.

IMO, the only ones worth the money are ones with DCM paperwork verifying the serial number.
