I got MGW sights for mine (tools should arrive Wednesday, they'll go on that night), they are supposed to fit the existing dovetails. Fusion makes a set, too. Look for "narrow tenon" or "colt dovetail" from your favorite supplier.
The sights themselves are cheap, but I also bought a 65 deg. dovetail file to clean things up and do fitting, and a staking tool, which pushed the price up. But my wife is always up for me buying tools because I can claim it makes later jobs cheaper (and because fussing with my hands keeps me happy).

I have a GOV model RIA that I am looking to upgrade the sights. What type of tenon do I need for the front sight and the same for the rear sight? I would like to avoid a dovetail cut in the front sight if possible. I have seen sights online that state small tenon with a demision of .055 to fit GOV model 70 series 1911. would this be the push in type or the dove tail type?

if it has a "tenon" it's staked in, Paul.
(the tenon goes thru the slide and is peened/mushroomed on the inside of slide with a staking tool)
No dovetail cut needed on the front.
The rear already has a dovetail cut.
It's considered the "standard" DT cut as I understand it.
I believe the size is .330" x 65 degree angle
Lordmoan, the "cheapest" way to improve your sights is to keep the existing ones and modify them.
Open up the rear sight aperture by .010" (ten thousandths)
a safe edge needle file to take .005 off each side s needed.
Also calipers to measure precisely
Then paint a dot on the front post and two on the rear
(or any dot-bar config you prefer)
VIOLA!!! po-boy combat sights
I did it to one of my Rock GIs and it made a great difference in the stock GI sights

I want to add the white dots to my CS. Did you use any special technique? I was going to go back to my "tried and true" toothpick and model paint technique. Anything work better?

I tried a tiny brush, then even tried a single brush bristle.
Tooth pic worked just as well as anything.
I've tried several types of finger nail polish and paints.
Plain ole Testors model paint has worked the best for me.
It holds up to cleaners and lube/oil pretty well from my experience.
be sure you thoroughly degrease the metal before applying the paint.
I blasted it with non-residue brake parts cleaner
what helped me the most was using my lighted magnifying glass
(the one on an arm you mount to a desk/bench)
That enabled me to see exactly what i was doing in great detail

I think Kings Gun Works makes some three dot sights that are like the GI sights but tall. They fit the GI rear sight dovetail and the front sight is tall with a tenon, also like the GI. I think Para uses them on their GI Expert, if you want to see what they look like go to the review at the top of the forums.
