Ill open by saying what a great source of info about these weapons.
I inherited the pistol from my father and I have no clue where he got it from, but I was curious about some of the markings on the parts to tell if it is all original. Just by comparing it to pictures on here it looks as if it has been refinished at some point. I tried searching, but could only find tidbits here and there like an S on the barrel and some of the other parts. Can anyone help me out any further figure out what parts are original?

Welcome to the Fourm.
Yes, I would agree the M1911 pictured has been refinished. Externally from what I can see, looks to be Springfield, but a complete teardown is in order to determine exactly what you have. Most all parts were 's' marked, but there can be exceptions. Detailed descriptions and pictures would be required. I have to ask about the magazine, since it is not pictured, is it correct ????

When you provide more and better photographs, be sure to wipe any oil off the surface prior to shooting the photos. We'll be able to better know if your pistol is refinished or original. Your pistol looks too glossy and smooth, but that may just be the lighting and/or oil. I can't tell.

so far ive been able to find an S on the part of the barrel where the link attatches, on the barrel bushing, on the firing pin stop. There looks to be an O or a zero on the slide an inch in front of where the firing pin plunger and plunger spring go.

im gonna try to take some better pictures, the pistol is pretty glossy and smooth especially when i compare it to this one http://forum.m1911.org/showpost.php?p=601283&postcount=3. It does say Springfield Armory on the right side of the slide and Model of 1911 US Army on the frame it says United States Property and it has a S/N of 78092, which think means it was made in 1914.

Looks like you have a Colt pinned base mag instead of the correct Springfield mag which has the metal from each side rolled over the base of the mag about 3/32" plus or minus. If you go to www.coolgunsite.com you can find the correct mag and other parts as well.
