Yesterday was a beauty. We took a drive across the North Cascades and got a few pics. The road and drive were phenomenal, the scenery gorgeous. Gotta love curvy mountain roads :appld:

There were a few bikers enjoying the day. Traffic was quite light....... one could really push the limits if one were so inclined ;) :eb: (within reason of course) :D

Man, snow in July? What altitude is that lake?

Hi Dr. T,

man, those are magnificent views...these pictures really speak to me!
Anybody else hear them calling "visit me!", too?

Oh I certainly can! My better half and I are still contemplating a trip in the US next fall - we first thought of Florida, then we encountered some HEAVY lobbying in this forum, rooting for Texas (very interesting), and now this!

We're not on an unlimited budget you know!

Start in Texas, drive to Las Vegas via Old Route 66, see Meteor Crater, Petrified Forest, the Painted Desert and Grand Canyon along the way. Triple your money in Vegas, then work your way up to Washington State, make sure you stop in Yellowstone. :)

Best of Luck!

I started writing a complex itinerary, including some stops for 1911 shopping, but nevermind - thread hi-jack over!

Ross Lake in the National Park, right? Beautiful country.

Man, snow in July? What altitude is that lake?
That's nothing. According to a relative I have living in the area, when the weather cools that road closes for the season due to heavy snow and avalanches. It doesn't open again until the following spring.

The first lake pic is Ross Lake, the others (with the turquoise/green water) are of Diablo Lake. This area always gets a ton of snow but last winter was especially heavy. We're still running into a lot of snow on the hikes above 5000'.

You certainly live in a beautiful land, Sir.

It is beautiful. We pay for it though during the other 9 months of the year when it's cold, gray and drizzling! :scared:
