Well I found a pretty nice 1911 of the 1918 vintage. Checked it 6 ways to sundy and its all origional. That being said, I didn't think to check the half cock. And of course it slips. All other hammer functions are normal. What does it take to fix the 1/2 cock?
Thanks

Probably another hammer. Either somebody has ground off the half-cock's captive hook, or they've substituted a Series 80 hammer for the original.

Can you detail-strip the gun? I'll know more if you can see the hammer and report back.

I bought myself a 1911 US army from 1918 ser#2986XX. Went through it head to toe...all origional. OK, that being said I didn't think to check the half cock till I got home and it slips. If I need a sear and disconnect replaced what should it cost.

Do you mean the sear does not engage the hammer in half cock? If that's the case then it's not the sear but the hammer half cock notch. A reputable pistolsmith can fix that or worse comes to worse the hammer needs to be replaced. I doubt it though. To answer your question it'll cost you no more than $50 to replace the sear and disconnector.

Sounds like a hammer issue, as 1911 Tuner said.

If you have a digital camera and can detail strip the pistol, perhaps you can snap a close-up pic of the hammer (removed from the frame) and post it for Tuner et al. to look at.
