I inherited a 1911 from my grandfather when he passed in 2001. I never really thought much about this weapon other than it was going to be another part of my military weapons collection. This would be in addition to a MKIII Enfield, Jap 7.7 rifle, and a Yugo SKS.
With the problems with Katrina down here, my wife and friends have been visiting the range a lot more. When trying to purchase some .45 rounds, the dealer asked me what they were for. I tried to explain what I had and I realized I did not REALLY know what I had.
All I know is that my Grandfather purchased this weapon after WWII from the NRA for $25. As with all weapons in the family, he fired it. I have also put about a box of reloads through it. I have also reblued this weapon since it was for display with the rest of my restored weapons.
After reading some of the great information contained in this forum, I have discovered the following:
It was manufactured in 1913, it is one of 19150 made.
It holds the Colt C in the circle mark on the left side.
It is marked with am H above the hammer was the inspector's mark of Frank Hosmer
It is marked with AA meaning This pistol was arsenal re-worked at Augusta Arsenal
Here are some pictures, if anyone has any additional information, it would be much appreciated.
