I inherited a 1911 from my grandfather when he passed in 2001. I never really thought much about this weapon other than it was going to be another part of my military weapons collection. This would be in addition to a MKIII Enfield, Jap 7.7 rifle, and a Yugo SKS.

With the problems with Katrina down here, my wife and friends have been visiting the range a lot more. When trying to purchase some .45 rounds, the dealer asked me what they were for. I tried to explain what I had and I realized I did not REALLY know what I had.

All I know is that my Grandfather purchased this weapon after WWII from the NRA for $25. As with all weapons in the family, he fired it. I have also put about a box of reloads through it. I have also reblued this weapon since it was for display with the rest of my restored weapons.

After reading some of the great information contained in this forum, I have discovered the following:

It was manufactured in 1913, it is one of 19150 made.
It holds the Colt C in the circle mark on the left side.
It is marked with am H above the hammer was the inspector's mark of Frank Hosmer
It is marked with AA meaning This pistol was arsenal re-worked at Augusta Arsenal

Here are some pictures, if anyone has any additional information, it would be much appreciated.

First thing I noticed is it has some later model 1911a1 grips. Did you have it blued over a sandblast finish? It looks like it was originally a Parkerized finished gun? Look in this forum for pics of my dads 1911 in the original blue at about 75% also made in 1913.

I blued it myself. I just coated it over the original finish, which appeared to be blued. My other parkereized weapons did not have the same type of finish. I also do not know about the grip situation.

The 1913 AA Colt in this thread appears to have been parkerized (refinished) when it went though Augusta. If you've refinished it again, it is over that finish. The pistol was originally blued from Colt in 1913.

Cut the resolution down on your pictures and they will be much better. Like looking in a puzzle box and trying to figure out what the picture is before the puzzle is put together.

They are large to show details... IE will reduce them to screen size when they are done loading. Make them big again to see details... there is only 2 complete weapons pictures...6117 and 6118.

That's a later slide on the pistol. Original slide would have the pony in a circle at the rear of the slide.

Good looking rebuild, though.

Good looking weapon, for a rework.
