I just found the 1911 forums. Great site, great rules!
Could someone please refer me to the best source of info on the US&S pistols?
A book, or a person who I could chat with.
Would Charles W. Clausons book be appropriate?
Thanks and Regards, wilbur

Mr. Clawson's (with a w) Collector's Guide is a very informative book on the US&S although due to it's limited size does not really go into depth on the pistols like his early big book did.
You will probably find as much or more information here at this site if you care to ask your questions.

Thanks very much for the reply. I found several different books.
The 2 most appropriate range from $ to Yikes!!!
Would any forum members here in the SF bay area have one?
If so, could I come and study it?
I think I have a list of the most important thing to verify.
Otherwise I will post pics with questions (some of which are probably going to sound dumb)
Thanks again Johnny

Why didn't I think of that. When someone has a question about a .45, just have them come by and look through my books.

We do have some experts on collectible 1911s here, but I'm afraid I'm not one of them.

First place I usually look for reference books that are too expensive for casual purchase is the Library :)

Wilbur, I think it best that you pick up at least a 3rd edition Clawson Book if you plan on getting into Collecting the Military .45. It will be a small price to pay for a great education. That and a CD put out by Karl Karash would come in a package deal for about $60.00. Also check out www.coolgunsite.com This is where you can order the afore mentioned book and CD. Happy Trails....

Starts out very well.

Well, not exactly. The trigger and grips are not original, and by the looks of things, it's possible the finish isn't original either.

Not being a collector of these pistols, I was surprised to find it.
I never thought it was "as issued", but since it is stamped as an arsenal rebuild, there is the possibility of it being an authentic mixmaster.
No idea why there is a hole drilled in the frame.
More shooters medals accompany it and they are authentic, and all for the same
This is definitely not the pistol that they were won with, but probably part of a boxed display of competition mementos.
I cleaned it, put all new springs in it and checked all the safety functions.
It's definitely gonna shoot.
Thanks to all who contributed.
I never ask value in these types of forums, but I would like to know what types of items which you might acquire with pistols you consider to be valued.
Is there a separate thread for this discussion?
Thanks, and Regards, wilbur

Welcome to the forum.

To discuss the accoutrements for these pistols, the General Historical Questions forum would be the place for that...or to search. There is a search tab near the top of the site. Clcik on that and enter your search word. If you wish to search posts by a specific member, use the advanced search tab that shows up when you hover over the search tab.

Thanks for sharing. But how about some more photos of your pistol?
