Some of the members here seem to have access to Colt's shipping dates, and I was wondering if the Colt people worked on that holiday back in 1918. If so, anybody know the serial number range for that day? I think my #338259 should be near that time.

Colt shipped 5000 pistols on July 1, 1918, and 5000 pistols on July 5, 1918. Serial number 338259 was shipped June 15, 21, or 25, 1918.

Thank you very much, Johnny Peppers. I really appreciate the information that you can get on this forum. I assume that if mine had been shipped to any kind of 'Special Destination' you would have mentioned that. Have a great Fourth!

2800 1911 pistols in the 333000 to 339000 serial number range were shipped to the Navy, but only a letter from Colt will confirm where yours was shipped.

Thanks again, Johnny Peppers. It looks as if I might have to start saving up $100 to go for a Colt letter.
