Guys I have a 1911 that belongs to my brother and I am trying to figure out when it was made and what it might be worth... I will take some pics and send them to my buddy eddie and he will post em for me. It is a 1911 and the serial# is no.290063 but the barrel has a different serial #. I have laid it side by side with my 1918 repro and the only difference that I see is that it doesn't have the rampant colt at the back of the slide and it doesn't have the initials above the ejector button, it still has the original double diamond wood grips in good shape. None of the screws are messed up and it isn't pitted anywhere. and it is United States Property marked. Thanks in advance and I will get picks up asap. Thanks Robbie

Colt 1911 serial number 290063 was shipped from Colt May 9, 1918. The number on the barrel is not a serial number, but probably a part number for a Vietnam era or later barrel. The pistol should still have the JMG acceptance initials above the magazine release.

Nice pistol, although the pics are a bit unclear, but the finish seems a bit too shiny to me, to be original on a 1918 M1911.

I think it has been refinished...but they did a good job... would the military have refinished it or somebody in the civilian arena??? thanks Robbie

sorry for the bad pics I had to use my cell phone...

And for the same reason, you never use a camera to make a phone call.

The high polish accounts for the JMG being buffed away. It was done after the pistol left the military. A military refinish would have been a dull sandblast and phosphate finish.

Thanks Johnny...what would you put the value of this 1911???

Just my own thoughts on the pistol, but I would think around $750. Some would not pay that, and some would pay more.
