Looking for some advice on this '43 1911. Realize I dont have enough pics for a full appraisal, hoping for a general thumbs up or down. Appears this one needed a bit more care over the years, but I wont judge since I don't know anything about previous owner or history. Also because I really dont know how much I dont know about 1911's (yet). Wish I had more pics stripped, barrel, magazine etc.. but I don't. My first impression, assuming its all original, poor condition?, its probably worth the $650 asking price.
Let me know if I'm out of my mind, I can take it, really need the help.
In case anyone asks, I'm not looking for a best of show piece. Just looking to own a piece of history, something in reasonably fair condiiton, more original the better. I guess that means I'm OK with a fair to poor condition 1911, as opposed to one 'artificially' refreshed.
Hopefully pics come thru OK being my first post here. Thanks for any advice or opinions.

That '43 is a 1942 Colt. Barrel markings and some other full left, right, back and top views might be necessary to get a bette feel of the gun's condition. But it looks relatively well-worn and damaged with pitting.

I can't say for sure with those images, but finish might be original.

That is an M1911A1, not an M1911.

Welcome to the forum.:wc:

That A1 certainly has the 'been there, done that' look to it. I think for the price, and what you have as far as expectations, I think you're just fine.

Unfortunately, no one knows whether or not the 'been there, done that' condition is from the trenches of France, or under the seat of Bubba's '59 F100 pick-up.

Good luck with it, and welcome to the Fourm.

Well, seems I missed this one. Asked for more pictures and it ended up sold.
Perhaps a lesson learned, for the price maybe I should have just grabbed it?

I dunno, depends on what it sold for. From what I can see of it, it's pretty rough.

Apparently its sale pending, I'll have a shot if it falls thru. I'm not so worried about the rough, what concerns me more is original and matching. I'd rather have a slightly pitted slide that matches than a spankin new parkerized or blued that clearly doesn't. Maybe just me, I can buy brand new if I want another new gun. Figure I got all I need, now I'm looking for something I want. I'll be more than happy with "been there" condition, just have to find one. Searching internet doesnt' seem to be the preferred method. If anyone wants to give up a source or contact, knows of decent original 1911a1's for sale, I'd be more than grateful for the help.

For 650 ...I would go for it..Yes you dont see the barrel markings or if the slide has the matching number. But if so .I would..You should find the same serial number under the Firingplate , and have markings on your barrel with a small G and P and COLT 45 AUTO text.
Good luck Ulfman
