I am having a [heck] of a time field stripping my 1911. After removing the barrel bushing, the recoil spring doesn't want to come out. Then the slide stop also seems stuck in the frame. Any suggestions??

To remove the slide stop the slide must be positioned with the moon shaped notch lined up with the stop lug so it can clear the slide and come out. Indicating the make and model is of value and can sometimes help in understanding the problem at hand. Welcome to the forum.

That's the problem, it seems to be a Colt, but on the right side of the frame there is no visiblee serial number, and only minimal markings on the left. I have the moon shaped notch aligned, but the slide stop isn't pushing through.
These may help too.

How does one obtain or have a 1911 pistol and not be able to determine the make or serial number? Which are the two absolutely needed pieces of information for purchase or sale, all others are illegal. Unless it is an 80% build.

Yeah, do you have pictures of this pistol?

Anybody think some zealous greenhorn BATF agent might be following this thread? :scared:

Thanks, it finally came apart. I have no photos, but I'll post the markings and info from the left side, and maybe you all can help me identify it. It came from my uncle's estate where it sat in a safe for at least 40 years.

Glad it's now with somebody who'll give it some much-needed TLC.

Actually, it looks so new that it may have only been fired a few times. Very clean, but D-R-Y. The slide stop came out finall, and after disassembly and inspection, it comes apart like a dream.
