View Full Version : Which Of These Three Ambi Safeties Have You Seen Break Most?

Hello,

I'm planning another build, now that I have the prototype out of the way.

The biggest problem I'm running into is that I'm a lefty and was counting on using a King's ambi safety. However, they are no longer available.

I love that retention pin. I'm thinking Kimber, but I had an issue with one of their safeties in the past. I've not seen it since though, so I'm thinking it was a bad part.

I currently run a Wilson High Ride, and though it works OK, there could be improvements.

The MEU is currently running Brown thumb safeties on their 1911 pistols. Whether this is because they're also running the Brown grip safeties and it's convenient, or because of some other reason, I simply don't know.

So in this poll I'm posting, I'd like do see which of these three ambi safeties - Brown, Kimber, Wilson - you've seen break the most, or seen the most trouble with.

This will be a carry pistol, so I have to minimize potential problems.

Thank you,

Josh <><

The Kings is by far one of the best designs.
I would check out the new Wilson Combat Bullet Proof ambi-safety.
The Colt design is good also.
I've never used any of the above, but I'm still using a Colt and a Kings after many years.

Hey Josh,

Keep me appraised of this. I am interested in modifying a RIA wide-body with an ambi-safety, beavertail, and extended thumb safety. Thanks!

Will do. It will be about a year to get this done; haven't even settled on a base gun for sure yet.

I'll probably wait until the Wilson's Bulletproof Ambi is generally available. It looks like it's what I look for in an ambi safety.

Thanks,
