Hey guys, This is Colt related, but not 1911. Sort of a general question about bluing. I have a 1969 Detective Special that has Pachmayr grips on it. After carrying it for a while, I guess moisture got under the grips at the edge. Well, now there's a little rust line where the grips were. I want to put the original wood grips on it, but you can see the rust lines. It is a real police issue so I don't want to have it reblued. Any suggestions??? Thoughts??? Thanks........

1. Got some FINE steel wool and lightly try to remove the rust marks...

OR

2. Sent it to Colt for a refinish job. They can reblue it in its original factory finish and at a competitive price (about $200).

Good luck with this fine snubie.

If the rust is just limited to the surface, the best and safest route is to spray the area with gun oil and rub it gently with very fine grade brass wool.
Hope that helps you out,
Chris

But some good gun oil ot the affected area and just leave it alone, trying to repair the blue will only make is worse IMO.
