Who has good quality frames/slides/parts to build a quality 1911 from scratch?

Before I decided to get an already built taurus to customize I was very seriously considering buying a fusion 1911 kit.
They do all the really hard fitting and machine work. I even called and got to talk to the president of the company about building 1911s! Bob Serva talked to me for about 1/2 an hour and was very helpful.
While I decided to go another route I will buy a fusion kit when I'm ready for my "ground up" build. Check them out they even got a forum on here.

they don't have a forum on here, but for some reason I thought they did. Just call them. they'll help you out. brownells and midway are good places to look for parts too.

Brownells sells Caspian, STI, Essex, and I think either Les Baer or Ed Brown frames and slides. If you are confident in your skills as a builder, I would recommend any of those except perhaps Essex. They're not bad, but not what I would choose as the basis for a high-end pistol. Essex would be more suitable for a first build or a recreational blaster.

The Essex "Select Receiver" offers some nice features for the money, as does there does their "Enhanced Slide". But I think that the Caspian Arms or STI are probably a better receiver.
Caspian will do all the little niceties desired for you.
