I have a Rock Island GI-spec 1911.
I had some issues with my extractor not engaging the rim of a cartridge and failing to feed a round, this was especially a problem when feeding the last round. I did some extractor adjustment and I *think* I may have that problem whipped. However, another issue is still plaguing me.
Sometimes, the slide will not return completely to battery when feeding a new round. This happens with all of the mags I've tried (one is an Act, one is a Chip McCormick, the other is a Kimber, all 8 rounders). Most of the time, the slide is just almost into battery...a light push on the slide will get the round the rest of the way into battery.
I don't *think* this is ammo related. I'll need to try some more ammos to be sure, but the rounds that didn't want to feed passed the barrel drop in test just fine.
It also seems to happen more often when I shoot from a rest ('rest' meaning I rest my hands on a concrete bench) than when shooting freehand.
Any thoughts? My theory is that I probably need an extra power spring.
I also occasionally get another kind of feed failure, where the round will only chamber about halfway. In these failures, pushing on the slide if futile. Extracting the round and inspecting it shows a dent on the case. Normally, reloading the round in the magazine and racking the slide allows it to feed, and these rounds have also passed the barrel drop in test. I have two theories on this one. Either my extractor is holding the round at a bit of an angle and not letting it feed right, or the bullets I'm using are slightly out of round.
Appreciate any and all help, thoughts, opinions, and insults.
