Edited to be more precise:

Hi!

I store all my weapons in a large Liberty Safe. I protect it from Humidity with Silica Gel - locate in Wisconsin. How do you guys store your old pre wwII pistols? Do have racks? Plastic Boxes? Just lay them in the safe? Just looking for the best way to store them.

My main concern is the way these older ones were blued rather then the new stainless?

Thank you

Thanks again!

Note by John: Travisaasen is interested in the storage of old pistols, not the newer models, due to the different blueing process used back then.

I keep all my firearms in a 40 gun Liberty. I have a large bag of the silica gel sitting inside.Rifles standing up and the pistols organized on the shelves(as well with all my ammunation and other shooting valuables) 6 years so far with no problems. Don't forget to lock the safe when you leave :D

I know - I remember when I didn't have a safe and littlerly 'worried' myself to all heck everytime I left for work... I just thought one day I would come home and be wiped out! Now I have no worries at all. except I had to sell a nice Thompson m1 and gorgeus FAL to get it, but was well worth the trade in the long run.

I had a wake up call when my Aunts field(almost beside my house) caught fire. The only thing that saved my house(and everything inside) was an acre irrigation pond that slowed the fire down till the fire department got here and put out. I bought the Liberty the next weekend and had an alarm system installed with a motion sensor over the doors of the house, living room, and my room(where the safe is). Before they were stored in my walk in closet with an exterior door and locking handle. That was not near good enough. I was lucky though I did not have to sell anything to buy it, my Uncle is friends with a fella who owns a gun store close by. Now my house is not totally safe(whos is?) but with my alarm, gun safe, a rather large dog, and a real crazy cat it is close.

I use the boxes from Robert's Arms Specialties for storing my pistols. They come in a variety of sizes, stack neatly in the safe, and are inexpensive. I use a sheet of 12X12 inch Brownells VPI paper in the box, and a Goldenrod in the safe. Never liked the desiccants as they have to be dried in an oven when they become saturated, and if forgotten they no longer work once saturated and are a source of moisture themselves. The Goldenrod keeps the temperature inside the safe just a few degrees warmer than the air outside the safe, preventing condensation.
