I have noticed that older Colt's have the mainspring housing pin that looks like it is installed the opposite way as current production models. I just picked up a Government Model from 1969 and the pin looks like to remove it, it should be pushed out from right to left.

I am curious if there was a reason Colt changed the pin configuration... hope this makes sense. I will try to get a picture but if you look at pictures of older models you will see what I am talking about.

Thanks and have a good Memorial Day weekend.

The pin will go in from either side and is held in place by a groove around the center of the pin. Nothing special about installation and it's your preference.

All the frame pins are "supposed" to go in from left-to-right, but you will find Colts of every vintage with the MSH pin installed the other way.

As an aside, museums always seem to put them in "backwards," so that the pistol presents "better" from the control side.
