I have a colt that has been passed down through my family for generations. It is SN 17229. I am interested in knowing what the approximate value for this gun is. I know there are certain places where you can pay to find out but I was hoping someone here might be able to let me know a general value. The gun is in excellent shape. I couldn't imagine a gun this old being in better shape. Thanks for any information you guys can give me!

Can't really tell you very much about you pistol without pictures. What is the serial number's prefix? No. or a C? Is it a Commercial or Military?

Here are some serial numbers.

Without good photos you are pretty much up a creek without a paddle. Condition and originality are everything in collector firearms.
