If I have an EGW compensator installed, like this one at Brownells (http://www.brownells.com/aspx/ns/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=6133&title=1911%20AUTO%20FIVE%20CHAMBER%20COMPENSATOR), do I use a 5" barrel with a GM slide?

And how is the pistol disassembled? Pull the slide to the rear, take out the slide stop and take the slide off?

Finally, is what Brownell's calls the "hybrid" on their website what EGW calls the "bushing" type? And how does that one work compared to the cone type?

EGW doesn't answer e-mails!

Hi ODA 564: :wc: to the Forum!

Can't answer any of your compensator questions, but.... . . how is the pistol disassembled?... go to our Tech Issues section and click on the Army field manuals for the "how to" stuff.

Good one! :appld: I assure you I can disassemble the US Pistol, caliber .45, M1911A1 in my sleep. I got my first privately owned one in 1974 and have five in my safe right now.

I was talking about disassembling a GM pistol with a compensated barrel (compensator fixed on the barrel), where it has no seperate barrel bushing and has a reversed recoil spring plug.

I was talking about disassembling a GM pistol with a compensated barrel . . .Oh! [blush, chagrin] :o Guess if I'd have read your post a little better I'd have picked up on that, huh?

Anyway, ...... can't answer that one either!!

But I'm sure somebody'll come along soon who can.

You remove the entire slide, take the guide rod and recoil spring out from the underside of the slide and then pull the barrel out from the front.

If a full length guide rod is used, a small hole is usually drilled into the side of the guide rod. The slide is locked to the rear, a small pin is placed into the hole in the guide rod and the slide is eased forward. The pin holds the reverse plug at the rear of the guide rod with the recoil spring compressed. This makes removing the guide rod much easier.

Not sure about the barrel length. Call EGW and talk to George, he will guide you.
