View Full Version : Slide or Slide Stop Damage

I do not think this is the same problem of other similar post by stevenwr.

New Combat Commander with a few hundred rounds threw it.

I was getting ready to post the same thing and maybe you have the same problem. I noticed while shooting with my son that the slide closed with the last shot of the clip.

I watched closely on the next clip and he was puting pressure on the slide stop with the recoil.

This damaged the slide stop or the slide cut where the stop locks or both during the auto reload.

Now I can pull the slide back and push up the slide stop into position and the slide will slam close after a second as it must have wore down the metal on either pieces.

My question is does anyone speculate whether it is the slide stop or slide damaged?

Should I buy a new slide stop and or if it is the slide, can I get it repaired by machining or will it take a new slide?

They both have probably been damaged to some degree. Replace the slide stop and carefully inspect the fit between the lug and slide notch. The slide notch can be reshaped using a jewelers file, care and time, tape the side of the slide before though please, as a slip will make a mark. You want contact at the top as well as at the bottom of the notch.

We'd need a good, clear closeup pic of the stop engaged in the slide notch, taken perpendicular to the gun to give any sort of decent answer.

In the meantime, blueprints of the slide and stop are available in our Tech Issues section for you to compare against.

Thanks, I have been away for a few days.

I looked on the Tech and compared and I think both are a little worn down or rounded at the ends.

I may try to file the Slide and buy a new slide stop and see it works or maybe, I just should send it back to the Colt Factory.

The gun is three months old and it does have the same scratch or rub on the main body of the gun caused by the slide.

Not sure what to do, but will make a decision and go with it.

Thanks again,

Send it to Colt for a repair.

Yep; maybe John has the right answer. If the Colt is new they will fix it.
I read a reader right in in American Handgunner and this person scratched the slide on a New Agent. So he sent it to Colt and asked them to re-blue it. Admitting he done the scratch. They blued it no charge.
