I have noticed a bunch of Royal Combat commanders and Royal Gold Cups on Gunbrokers. However, it seems that not alot of people are jumping at the chance to buy these limited edition Colt 1911s. Why is that? They look like pretty nice guns and one day I would think they would be hard to find. I understand they are pricey and they are factory new, but why not? What does everyone thing about these guns?
Thanks,
Eric

I have one. That being said, there are many reason why they don't sell.

First, they are expensive and there are other Colts that can be had for much less money that will shoot as good.

Second, being a special run does not make them collectable. Colt has hundreds - maybe thousands of special 1911 runs. Time in time again, I have found that these do NOT generally go up in value as compared to other collectible Colts, like WW1 or WW2 one for example. I have come to the conclusion that it is difficult to recover your cost of these collectibles. Often they just don't sell for what you paid for them. So it is best that they just be used as shooters.

So why do I have one (well two really)? Because the finish on that is from a bye-gione era and they generally are not made that way anymore. If you gots to have one then it would cost almost as much to buy an new one and send it away to Fords or someone else. Besides, I could not pass up on a matched serial number set!

Why is that?

Cause they are WAY overpriced.

I have to agree with FlameRed and paul45 for the most part...except I think they're just "overpriced" and not "WAY" overpriced. The finish is absolutely fantastic, and the extremely nice display case is first rate. Ya gotta pay for those things if you want 'em. And they are limited editions, after all, and offer a few minor "tweaks" that aren't on their common siblings. So, if you buy one right, and want one for what it offers (not as a collectible investment), I suspect it'll be as valuable as the next Colt down the road. Like the sign said, "life's too short to shoot ugly guns." :)

I would like to get a BHP refinished with the Royal Blue.

They tend to be overpriced, but if you love them, and can afford them then buy.
