I am thinking of building a 1911. mostly looking at caspian frame and slides. one of the race ready receivers.. i have a few questions.
9mm or 38super?
external extractor?
serrated flat top?
plunger tube slot?
anything else?

As Ken Crawley of Crawley Custom (one of our sponsors and a master gunsmith) told me, "Half the fun is deciding what you want to build." He's right...and the great part is you get to decided EXACTLY what YOU want! That said, I'm building a 9mm commander using Caspian frame and slide. I started out with the flat top slide and then wound up sending it back for Caspian to add the top serrations. Going either 9mm or 38 super initially gives you the option of fitting the complementary barrel at some point, and then you have the best of both worlds. Enjoy.

+1 on the .38 Super and a 9mm auxiliary barrel.
