Hello all. new to this forum and to building 1911's. I look forward to your advise. So far I have a les baer fitted frame and slide. Its was made in the mid 90's but has never been used, still in the white. I have used the kuhnhausen books on my other projects and have one for the 1911. Any major do's & dont's I should look out for? Any parts manufactures I should avoid? I am not building a competition gun, I just want a tight, accurate and reliable gun. I probably enjoy working on them as much as shooting them! Anyway, I will have lots of questions as I get deeper into this . thanks .

That is as you know a quality frame and slide I would recommend that you fill it with like parts, quality hand fit, no drop-in parts, few are really drop-in fit right anyway. Welcome!

Not to hijack the thread, but out of curiosity, are the frame and slide in a good shape after being in the white for so long?

that gun with good quality parts should run you no less than $1,500 or atleast close to that. I was debating also before if I would put together my own 1911 but I decided I was just gonna get another one with a semi custom set up and have a few things done to it. I didnt really feel like gambling on it if Im gonna put that much money on it. Good luck with yours and may it be as you planned

yes, they look as if they had been made yesterday. the person I bought them from said they called the factory and by the serial # both were made in 1994. both frame &slide are stamped with same serial#. as for parts manufactures, nolin, ed brown, wilson and baer are my choices so far.

That sounds impressive... they must have been swimming in oil all this time! And yes, I doubt anyone would question your choice of parts' makers.
