Thinking about picking one up, whats are every body's thoughts on the newer Colts?

I bought an all stainless Colt 1991A1 .45acp last July. The pistol has been flawless with all types of factory ammo. I opted for the 1991A1 over the XSE because I perfer the more traditional look. This is my prefrence. I don't like the look of the serrations on the front of the slide. Many do like it. It just depends what you like. I'd say buy one now. They are great guns, and are the original makers of the 1911. I don't know too many people that own 1911s of baby boom age or older, that did not own a 1911 Colt at one time or another. The old Colt Combat Commander was the favorite of the Texas Rangers for years. Can't think of a better recommendation than that.

Hello
I have over 3,000 rounds though my XSE Lightweight Commander and consider it top of the line for the price. I own many pistols from Sig-to-Walther-to-springers-to-Colts and prefer the Colts for some reason.
I refinished my Lightweight Commander recently. The LW Commander pistol is relatively light, very accurate, very reliable and very concealable. These are the features I am looking for. The only thing I wish it had is a rail because I always keep a pistol in my night stand with a tactical light attached for night use.
Here are some picts:

I bought a stainless 1991 Commander earlier in the year, too. I looked at the XSE Commander my local shop had, and it was a nice pistol. I'm just not a fan of the front cocking serrations. Also, the Commander I ended up buying was $200 (new) less than the XSE, so that was a consideration as well. I do like the lightweight XSE though, as I think the lightweight Commander is an ideal carry pistol.
My 1991 has been flawless out of the box. Got a little of the dreaded "slide rub", but you can't really see it on that part of the slide since it's a rough textured finish. I'm thinking I may eventually have the finish bead blasted, as I really like the look of several other members' pistols that have had that process.
Bottom line, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the new Colts. I'd buy (and will, eventually) another one in a heartbeat.

cjgemm: Ive got a earlier XSE Stainless Commander. I think the earlier ones came with the "fixed" front sight verses the dovetail cut later ones...I might be incorrect.
Botttom line.....great gun althought the front sight did come off as the staking was not done very well. Colt sent me a replacement.
I gave my USMC son a full size XSE for X-mas a couple of years ago.

I've had a XSE stainless commander for a few months now and am up to about 480 rounds thru it. i've fed it UMC, Blazer, some unknown loads and it's eaten all of it. It's accuracy is better than I am and I don't have the dreaded slide rub. I have the off-centered spring plug, but since it functions reliably, i'm not looking to fix what's not broken. it's great looking and i am apparently one of the few that like the front cocking serrations
If i had any complaint, it's that it's sharp. all of the edges are like the edges of ice skates. it may not bother some people but with my mouse pushing hands, yeah, they're sharp.

Thanks for all the replies, looks like tracking one down might be a little harder than I thought when I first posted. A couple on guns America I'm inquiring about.

My XSE has been without any problems in the years I have had it. I have done some external upgrades but internals are stock.

Be careful, I've seen a few on there referred to as "XSE Commander" but the pic was of a regular combat commander or the model number was a regular combat commander O4091U and therefore was of a lower price. make sure it's a O4012XSE or whatever XSE model number you are looking for.

I love my all SS XSE, I carry it every day. There's not much left on it that's "factory" except the finish and the sharp "holster eaters" on the front of the slide. It's going in for a dehorn and bead blast real soon.
She's a keeper.
