I've just received my first 1911. It's a Kimber SM II. I'd like to be able to get a decent tool set for my pistols, rifles, and shotguns. I've looked on the Midway site but now am more confused than ever. I'd really appreciate any recommendation for these kits and want a good quality set. Thanks in advance for any info. BTW, this site ROCKS! :appld: :appld:

Shop the Brownell's website, they have it all.

Depends on what other specific guns you have other than the Kimber 1911.
While I do not have any rifles, I do have an assortment of semi-autos, revolvers and shotguns. A good gunsmith screwdriver set / a punch set / a file set / caliber cleaning equipment - one good overall kit and then specific sized parts / a good digital caliper / lots of microfiber cloths........
Depends on what you plan on doing also; general maintenance should be covered with what was mentioned above (maybe not the file set - I got that because I rebuilt my 1911 and needed to fit a few parts).
You can very easily go overboard and end up spending more than you did for the 1911

+1. A lot of "kits" have extras in them that you may never use. Here's a good listing for a basic 1911 kit complete with the Brownell's part numbers:

Another option if you don't want or need the bigger set, is Brownells "screwdriver set." A friend of mine gave me one for Christmas, it's a whole bunch easier carring it around than my super set. ;)

Ages ago I was told that the combination tools as shown here:
http://www.gammfg.com/combo.htm
were originally intended for gunsmiths --- anyone know if that's the case?
I've inherited a tap and die set from my father and have been considering making one w/ bit sizes appropriate to the firearms which I own....
