I have two awesome TALO Colt 1911's on layaway! The "Day of the Dead" model in 38 super and a Royal Combat Commander, both won on Gunbroker. I'm a happy boy! My question to you fellows is: what is the best way to protect and preserve them and keep them looking beautiful for years to come? Also, do they come from the factory already greased and protected? In other words, should I touch them at all (as far as an extra film of oil or silicone rag or field stripping and using rust preventative) if I'm not going to fire them (I might fire the RCC)? Lastly, I've heard that bluing will fade over a long period of time (even if exposed to nothing more than light and air), so will keeping them in at least their boxes (dark and without a direct flow of air)help to prevent this scary prospect? Thanks in advance.

Congratulations on your new Colt pistols. I don't know about how to store a pistol to keep it new, I shoot all my pistols as often as I can.

Congradulations. For the Royal Combat commander, get a can of Johnson's Paste Wax at Lowes for $5 and it will last you a life time. It will not harm the blueing whatsoever. Other products, that may be labeled as waxes are really polishes, and you will notice blue on your rag as you rub them down. They are removing blueing from the gun! Johnson's was is cheap and excellent and harmless.
Here is my pair of matching serial numbered Government and Commander:

Talo. Underneath their art they are a gun. I always liked art you can shoot better than art you just hang on a wall. I have a few Talos and shoot them. My favorite is my Silver Dragon. Cute as heck and puts .45 ACP rounds in a 2-3 inch hole at 25 yards, with one hand standing on your legs.

I paid around $1600 for it and have been offerred up to $10K by people that wanted to buy it. It is cute.

But then I was born in the year of the dragon and it is not for sale at any price.
