I have the opportunity to buy the pictured Colt Commander 9mm s/n 21989-LW with the box. Apparently it was manufactured in 1953, the same year I was born, which would be pretty cool. The pistol is in about 98% to 99% condition, appearing to be unfired or very nearly so. Included is one original magazine. The owner wants me to set the price and I want to be fair to him. I have seen similar examples offered from a low of $1000 to a high of $1800, with those at the upper end of the price range not selling. My question is: What would be a fair price to both seller and buyer? I appreciate your opinions.

If you live in the same state and do not have to go through FFL, then I think $1.2k would be fair for a gun in that apparent shape. Do take it apart and look for rust or surprises inside. That price is based on what I have seen down here in the SW (Arizona, NM).

A quick check of completed auctions on GB show the highest selling price is 1250 for a series 80 9mm Commander. One similar to yours sold for 1200 one month ago.

That is a big help, thank you for your opinions and for the link. I missed that one when I did a search on Gun Broker. The FFL is not a problem and I already have the pistol, it is in as good of condition on the inside as it is on the outside, no rust and no signs of much if any firing. Now I just have to pay for it! I guess I'll be digging through my safe to find a gun or two to sell to raise funds. Thanks again.
