I just won the auction for my 4th 1911 on GB. This one has been shot, but in beautiful shape. I'll be doing some work to this one, Novak tritium sights, mag well, maybe a trigger job. :D

Nice looking stainless!
Let us know how it shoots.

You might want to research alitttle before altering your XS. Unaltered ones go for pretty good money.

Just curious, AFAIK, the XSE is a new model. Did it achieve "collectible" status already? How about the other current model Colts? What I don't understand is that alot of custom gunsmith do work on Colts but they seem to be more expensive than the stock Colts.
I am interested to know because I have a Colt that I want to refinish :) And if it alters the value, then its something that I want to consider also. Thanks.

If this is an XSE model it looks to already have some modifications done ( i.e. trigger, rear sight, and BTGS). This is my XSE which is bone stock except for the Wilson Combat magwell and black corian grips. I changed the duckbill safety out for a Wilson Combat BTGS at a later date.

Especially an early one like you have.
The first XSEs had a McCormick trigger a Caspian grip safety, a Colt amb-safety, and a different style Novak rear sight. I had an early Commander .45.
The later guns have a different type trigger, a Colt ridiculous grip safety, a STI ambi-safety and Champion rear sights. I also had a Commander .38 Super.
The XSE was introduced about ten years ago.

This XSE appears to be correct for the first issue ones.

It is not an XSE and has NOT been modified. It is factory original. As I said in post #3...... the OPs Colt is an XS. XS model Colts were made for a year or two in the late nineties.

OK I certainly won't disagree.
The OP's gun above is:
Model 01070XS
The current gun is
Model 01070XSE
The guns appear to be the same, but apparently are not. I assumed that they were all of the XSE nomenclature.
My LW Commander had all the features of the OP's pistol except my gun had conventional sights.

I will have to wait until I get the blue box to see if it's an XS or XSE I guess. I bought a LW Commander last month that I thought was an XSE, but it is an XS. I'm leaving it alone as it's original and unfired. If this one is an XS, I guess I will leave it alone and just shoot it occasionally. What sort of Colt 1911 should I look for that could be a great shooter and modifying it wouldn't hurt the value?

Paul is correct. The picture you posted is an XS, not an XSE, they had different rear sights, grip safeties and I believe different triggers.

Here's a silly question, where can I get the little white plastic inserts for the sights on the XS? Both the rear ones popped out on my Commander. I guess I could put a dab of paint in there, but I want the gun to be totally original since its unfired. Any help would be appreciated.

The little white dot in my XSE LW Commander popped out sometime in the 2200+ round count range. I called Colt and there are no little white dots. They sent me a new front sight free (They did ask if I wanted to send the gun back and they would fix it.) Anyway have the new front sight, but my wife who has a jewlery bizz thought it would be great for a piece of gold. Gun is still 100% and if we get around to the gold dot I will post picts.

This is an early picture of the gun with the white dot in the front site.

Paul was indeed correct, I had the guy I'm buying it from send me a pic of the sticker on the blue box. I will learn the minor differences between them as I become more familiar with the different models Colt made or as I continue to buy more 1911s....lol. I truly appreciate the help everyone has given and will keep asking questions. Great site to have become a part of.

Nice move! Buy two "XSE"s and get two XSs instead! It's just that when they first came out, they were hard to get and Colt inexplicably made them for only a very short time. They could have given K and SA some great competition for those wanting those "tacticool" options, but instead Colt went back to the duckbill GS and old timey 3 dot sights.....why I will never know.

Here's a pic of the XS pair together and all 4 in my 1911 Pelican case. I really lucked out on the 2nd pair. They are going to stay original and I am looking at a M1991A1 compact model now for one to modify.
