Was at the local store this Afternoon and looked at a Colt 38 Super Government, serial number indicates 1950 manufactured date. I know it's always tough to come up with the price on these, but this one is in 80%-90%, no box, one mag....He's asking 750.00 ......buy it or leave it ?

The condition is not good enough to be "collectible", so what's it for? For a "shooter", a new Colt would probably be better, due to the old gun's rim-headspacing barrel. Still, old Colts are nice just for having.

As much as I would like a pre 70s Super .38 the 750 price tag leads me to believe that the guns condition might be less than desirable.

I sure would be looking real hard at a '50 38 super Gov't for 750.
The percentile description is too wide though.....the difference between 80 and 90 percent is somewhat enormous.

OK clarify that...Looking real hard since it could be a great buy, or looking at it real hard to find something wrong with it and that is why it is 750.00. Of what I have seen on the internet, they are all well over 1,000
thanks, Mort
Here's an update, It is much better shape than first realize, The Frame, Slide are in excellent shape, BUT, it may have been refinsihed ,it appears to be more of a parkerized finish than blue. (What was original in 1950?, the serial number does match with proofhouse.com as being a 1950 piece)
Second, a number of aftermarket parts, Hammer ( and probably sear, couldn't take it apart, but trigger pull is very good (around 5 lbs.), It has a Flat mainspring housing, full beavertail grip safety (looks to be Wilson) and aftermarket sights. .....Now what do I do.

Well, my opinion only, but I would pass. For me only, a refinish and the aftermarket parts are too much. It should be a very nice polished blue. Maybe the aftermarket parts are not permanently altering, but not for 750 bucks. I would rather have a original, honest beater instead.
I think I would save the 750 and find something else. One could get a new 38 Super Colt for the same money. Remember, just my opinion.
I'll second Paul, I'd pass.
