I've got an old family heirloom 1916 SA (frame) 1911. It's in OK shape, and one I've been shooting for 30 yrs (yep, a 6 yr old can shoot a 1911). I think the slide is a commercial remark, it's hardly a collectible, but I'd like to put the correct type front sight back on (somehow after 80 yrs it came off). I've tried Midway, Brownells and a half-dozen Google results. I've also used the search feature here (found this site from GlockTalk). No joy.

I'm also interested in "correct" grips, since the pachmayr I put on 20+ years ago just doesn't seem right.

I have to admit I find it amusing that the modern SA 1911A1 I bought 10 years ago has slowly morphed into a 1911's dimensions - long trigger, flat mainspring housing - although I can't see giving up the lowered ejection port or the usable sights. Heh. I can't figure out how to put a flat mainspring housing on my Glock 21, I'm looking though.

Regards,

Do you have a picture of the hole in the top of the slide and/or pictures of the slide itself? There are several variations of tenon size. The Springfield front sight was milled directly into the slide and not replacable. That may be why you have a different slide.

Correct grips are double diamond style and not easy to find with the Springfield checkering pattern.

The correct walnut grips for the SA will have 11 rows of checkering +/- 1 row between the large diamonds around the grip screws. Repro's with the correct amount for SA's are hard to find.
