I was watching some vids on Youtube about 1911's vs. 1991A1's. The producer brought out some short comings about the 1991A1. Has anyone experienced the firing pin getting stuck, causing a jam? He says when this happens the firing pin stop falls out. When you drop the mag and clear the chamber, as soon as you pull the trigger, the firing pin and spring fly out the back. So far my 1991A1 (1995 mfg.) has been fine. Has anyone had this happen to them? Thanks.....

Oh dear...
First of all,

Second, you may want to do a forum search on series 80 systems, I believe there's a sticky on the subject somewhere.
When you read through a few of these, you will see that this can be a flame-prone subject, with a high risk of overflowing to comparisons between this and other firing pin safety systems, etc etc...
So, have fun. In any case, I think the general consensus here is that if yours is giving you no problems, you have nothing to worry about.
Oops, Ken beat me to it...

I read the posts on the link you sent. It put's my mind at ease. I just bought this gun. Got a good deal too $499. According to Colt, it was mfg. in 1995. It looks almost new. I took it to the range and it shot every type of ammo I put through it. I think it's a great pistol ! Gotta love a Colt !

After several different Model Colts with the Series 80 FPS, I haven't had any issues.
That video is misleading, and a Colt rant IMO.

I guess I should own up, I was referring to stickies detailing the differences between series 70 and 80 pistols, somehow I had missed the thread on that "I have a camera, two guns, a vice and an opinion" guy! I didn't post in it, I saw no reason for re-opening a discussion on something like that... I read through it and the thread in that other forum, this would have been funny if it wasn't so serious...

colddeadhands61......Hang out here instead of youtube! One loses too many brain cells on pitiful sites like that.
I've said it for a long time, the M1991A1s are some of the best built pistols to come out of West Hartford (Hunter has even picked-up the mantra ;)).
The only thing those videos are good for is the guy's ego.

Now there's some excellent advice.

The 1991A1 Combat Commander I had was one sweet shooting pistol.

OD is exactly correct. After hearing him talk about the 1991A1 I found a good deal on one a few years back.
It has been my constant companion shortly after I brought it home.
I have several Series 80 Colt and have shot a pile of others with no trouble.
This fella on youtube has no idea what he is talking about.
I posted a negative comment on his video and he deleted it.
His words were he was a master gunsmith (though I find this hard to believe as he did not even know correct nomenclature)

I own two 91's, a blued Government and a stainless Commander. I trust the protection of my life to either one. The Commander is my daily carry.

Here's a pic of my old pal.
I CANNOT make this gun not work by abusing it. I''ve tried.
Can't do it. Nope.

My daughter has one that has thousands of rounds through it and all it's ever had to have is a new slidestop and return spring. Has fired everything put in it.
