my defender is back to colt --its brand new, never fired, has slide rub marks. the amount of slide/frame play was shocking--im sure that colt will take care of this --- i figured that while they have it should i ask colt to do some work on it?? -- here is what they offered--they offered to set, adjust trigger to min. spec's -- does anyone know what they mean by min. spec's --- is that good enough for a target/defense carry trigger pull? -- also i would like to make sure it will consisitantly feed SWC's --- should i ask them to do any throat/polish work while they have it -- any suggestions as to what i should do while they have it?? - thanks--al

Again I am an engineer, but any "minimum specs" should be spelled out to you, hopefully in an email, fax, or letter.

I believe "minimum specs" means a clean trigger that's not so light as to be a "hair trigger." Probably around 5 pounds. I'm sure it will be VERY appropriate for concealed carry and self-defense purposes.
Why are you concerned about SWCs in a self-defense pistol? That's what the Defender is. If you want it to feed SWCs then I suggest you mention that to Colt while they have it. I'm sure they are building the Defenders to feed JHP self-defense rounds. If it were my pistol, I would be looking to feed JHP reliably and not worry about SWC stuff.

thanks for the responses-- its a good idea to call and ask to confirm as to what they mean by "min specs" – I go to the range every week -- i reload so i can afford going to the range, so i shoot more--using JHP's for me would be prohibitively expensive – SWC’s seem to be very accurate and feed perfectly in my Ruger 345 – but not so well in my 1991 compact -- which i'm considering sending it out for barrel/ramp work as well--not to mention I can see the holes in the target much better w/ SWC's, LOL.

But what do you carry for self-defense? SWCs?
I started reloading to reduce the cost of practice, too. But I carry 230-grain JHP self-defense ammo, so I reload 230-grain FMJ or plated LRN bullets that shoot to the same point of aim as the hollow-points.

Me too. I want to practice with as close to my defensive ammo groupings and feel as possible.

your point is very well taken-- but i feel that if there is no trouble feeding SWC's then ther will no trouble feeding anything, like my ruger 345 -- i understand your point that i should practice with the same weight of bullet i would carry --which are rem golden sabers and speer gold dots thay weigh 185/200gr.-- they are around the same weight as the SWC's -- there's one more thing --your lucky to get what you can find these days

I carry 200 grain JHP and shoot 200 grain SWC's for practice. Alot of them. ;)

now that i see i'm not the only one that uses SWC's -- would you suggest or recommend that i ask colt to do somethig with the barrel/ramp/slide to make my new little colt feed SWC's better

Why not. They will just polish the ramp and throat the barrel. All that will make SWC and HP's feed better. It's a win/win. Then load thousands of SWC's that mimic your defensive loads and proceed to heavily practice on the cheap.

Tell Colt what you want and they should be able to accomodate you. Good luck finding primers right now. Even powder is scarce now also.

primers are getting very hard to find -- small standard primers are no where to be found--i asked colt what min specs were? i was told that they will check to make sure the the triger pull will be 4 1/2 to 5 pounds, which sounds good to me. Also, before they recommend anything they' re going to shoot my pistol w/SWC's to see what happens, before making recommendations.
