It's a Government Property frame with a serial of 4480XX and smooth wood stocks. It has a Remington-Rand slide on it. Thoughts?

From your description, it is a 1918 Colt M1911 frame and a WWII Remington Rand slide. Grips sound aftermarket. A better description and/or photos will get you a more detialed answer.

Approximate value? Not enough info to really tell you. Anywhere from $200-300 up to $700-800. Depends on a lot of things you didn't include in your description.

A picture is indeed worth a 1000 words.:)...... Maybe even a 1000 bucks!;)

First, the serial number is not a Remington Rand. That falls in the range of a 1918 Colt M1911. Sounds like you may have an R-R slide atop a Colt 1911 Frame. Got any pictures? Is your USP stamp on the left forward the slide stop?

Sorry, no pictures until early next week. Camera on loan. Yes, the USP stamp is on the left forward the slide stop. Iffn the stocks are after market, where could I pick up some OEM for that year and possibly slide as well?

The original grips and slide my be hard to find and expensive if you do find them. The original grips will be walnut with large diamonds around the grip screw holes and have 15 rows +/- 1 row between the large diamonds. Does the weapon have any arsenal rebuild stamps (such as AA)? And is the weapon parkerized? An original slide for the time period will be blued and probably expensive as well. You may be better off, and money ahead for enjoying it for what it is.
