help! i can group pretty good with my g.i. rock island. but i need to tweek the rear sight just a hair it's hitting to the right not a problem up close but at long distance it needs ajustment i took a punch & hammer and hit it plenty hard enough but it won't move. are these rear sites not ajustable? also have you guys ever tryed 100yard shots on a big pice of cardboard with your rock island .45? i thought that 230 gr. would drop like a rock but you could definitly keep somthing pinned down.

I had a devil of a time getting the rear sight off my Armscor slide to install an adjustable in its place. It will come off, but it appeared to me that Armscor must have used red Loctite in it. I just about destroyed mine getting it off -- which wasn't a concern for me, but is for you.
Try using a soldering iron (not a torch) to heat up the sight, and then try the punch/drift again while its hot.

+1 on Hawkmoon comment. :appld: :appld:
When I changed out my GI sights on my Hi Cap I started with a nylon rod and a low impact hammer and light tapping. I progressively moved on to a mid weight ball peen hammer and a brass punch and some very forceful swings.
Be careful and support and protect the opposite side of the slide. I had put my slide in a vise and did not protect it well enough and I end up marring my serrations. :( :(
Good luck.

Ditto. I only hit the serrations once, but once is all it takes.
I also destroyed a brass drift. I ended up using a steel one, and I bent that one in the process.
How badly did you want to adjust those sights? You might consider asking Ivan if you can send in just the slide, and have Arnel make the adjustment.

If the sight is heated the metal sight will expand, making it tighter in the milled slot of the slide. Instead, would it not be better to subject the sight to cold, like an ice cube for instance, to make it contract?

Red Loctite is considered a permanent adhesive. It requires heat to break the bond.

I didn't know about the Loctite on the sight! That stuff can be tough to deal with to say the least.

Yep when you finally get the sight off you can see some discoloration of the metal where the dab of locttite was applied.
I did not use heat when I changed my sight and I paid for it.

Well this is not what I wanted to here, especially with a set of Trijicons just waiting to try and go on my slide tomorrow, LOL.
Thanks for the heads up anyway, this way I want be blindsided by it.

Maybe it would not be to hard to rig up some kind of jig with a bolt to force the sight out of the dovetail.
