Hi all,

Wow lots of threads about the Spartan. I didn't want to make a whole new thread but wasn't sure how the community here feels about people tacking posts onto their own threads.

So my first Pistol just arrived. STI Spartan from freedom ventures in Nova Scotia. I've shot Brownings Sigs and Glocks in the military but never any .45s

Any how I'll be doing some massive forum searching but wanted to get a jump on things. Right out of the box (while being proud of my new baby) there are a few things I want to change.

The trigger - Is it plastic? It seems kind of flimsy.
The sights - Front sight doesn't seem like it will hold up to holster use.
Saftey - doesn't have enough resistance.
Hand grips - doesn't really appeal to my eye (forgive me)

If someone has the time, would you mind recommending me on ideal replacement sights, trigger, hand grips and perhaps even how to fix the saftey? Or pointing me to where I could find them on the forum?

Like I said this is my first pistol and I have zero experience swapping out parts or upgrading firearms for personal use.

(Also I'm Canadian so Canadian shops would be preferred)

Thanks

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your great purchase. The Spartan is one of the more popular pistols in the STI lineup due to its great functionability and price ratio. Regarding your inquiries, here are my honest opinion;

Trigger : one of the best around, its glass-filled polymer and its used in all STI pistols even the high-end ones.

Sights : looks filmsy, but will definitely hold up, its not really designed for holster use. The orange fiber-optics can be changed to a brighter red or even green.

Grip safety : Maybe you could have a gunsmith take a look at it, but if its working why fix it.

Grips : very subjective to personal preference, I changed my to black (alumagrips and CT laser grips)

I would suggest that you take it out and just spend your money on bullets and I am sure there is nothing you will change from that time on, its just an excellent shooter. Enjoy.

Here's mine in Hard Chrome cause I am not happy with the parkerized finish. Sorry if I have posted these pictures several times before.

With green front fiber optics, and red rear fiber optics for contrast.

Man I just love that pistol!!! I hope you do not mind - I am going to soon have a replica of it - well not exactly but close.

Arnel just finished customizing a Spartan for me - should be here ia a few days. I have not had the finish applied yet - I want to shoot it first and see if anything else is needed before I send it for Hard Chrome.

Checkering - front strap - butt of slide - speed bump on grip safety
melt on hammer -
Fusion flat checkered MSH/magwell - beveled to frame
Trigger job to 3#
New EGW ejector
Match Bushing.
Kings Ambi Safety

I am pretty sure I will get it all HC - but considering Highgloss Blued slide and HC frame bi tone.

Question - did you have the rear sight drilled for the fiber optic or is that a replacement rear sight?

I have had my Spartan for two years now and am extremely happy with it. Since I am a student I am always needing to budget so I have done alot of work on it myself. The first thing I changed on my was that front sight. For some reason the end of the sight was closed and the optic was not getting any light. I think that it was because it was an older model or something. Besides I put on a magwell, extended mag catch, and I lightened the trigger to 3 pounds. Just take the customization one thing at a time unless you have the money and can have a good gunsmith work on it.
