I'm looking at one of these larger barrel bushings from MidwayUSA and I really like the looks of it. It says it will improve the accuracy as well. Does anyone have any experience with these? To be honest I want it for the looks more than the supposed accuracy increase. I shoot a Taurus PT1911 and it's plenty accurate as it is. It also says that some fitting will be required. What exactly is entailed with this? All comments appreciated.

I ordered the EGW melt carry bevel not the oversized bushing but the one that is a drop in. It fit my Taurus 1911 very good and I am shooting tighter groups than with the factory bushing. If you get the oversized bushing you will have to have it fitted by a gunsmith. Some people say the only thing that is a drop in part for a 191 is the grip bushing, grip screws and grips but I have replaced a few parts on my Taurus that dropped right in and fit better than the factory parts.

I just don't understand the concept of calling something "pre-fit" and then saying it requires fitting. But ... they mean it. I bought one of EGW's "pre-fit" barrel bushings from Brownells, without having read the fine print, and it was on the way back to Brownells within 24 hours. IIRC, it went onto the barrel but it was oversized for the slide, which would have required a lathe to turn down the OD. That's not my idea of "pre-fit," and since I don't have access to a lathe it was exceedingly unhelpful.
If it ain't broke ... don't fix it.
If you buy it from EGW, won't they cut it to your measurements?
I was on their site a couple years ago and "thought" that was the drill for at least one of their bushings

The EGW Angle Bored bushings I ordered and used from Brownells were fine. they are available in different sizes.
I never used the melt bushing.

+1 for talking to EGW. Otherwise you're off to your local pistolsmith.
There is no such thing as "drop-in"
