Is it OK to feed my RIA 1911, .45 ACP, +P ammo? Whether it be factory or hand-loaded.
Just want to make sure that I will not damage my favorite weapon.
Apologies, wrong forum. I will re-post in Ammo forum.

I have used alot of +P ammunition in my "Rock" Pistol without major problems, Mag-tech +P, Cor-bon +P and Power Ball, the "Rock" loves'em. In the "Rock" .38 super, +P ammunition is all I can find, still no problems, I did switch my recoil spring to a Wolff 18.5Lb, though. It wont hurt it.

Your RIA GI is sturdy enough to handle +P ammos, just don't make 'em its regular fodder. I use them for function test and familiarization but rely solely on JHPs and Ball for defense loads.

Great! Thanks for the info. I want to use +P for self-defense rounds. Therefore, I would also want to make sure that whatever I use will feed properly through the gun.
I have purchased an 18.5 lb recoil spring that I plan to use when heavy loads are loaded and fired.

No problem at all with +P ammo!! But why would you want to if I may ask? Standard 230 grain FMJ ammo is all you need and it is a lot cheaper also!!!

well, I know that when I'm carry mine, I will be carrying HST +P (http://www.tds-us.com/catalog.php/tds/dt49209/pd973740/FEDERAL_PREMIUM_TACTICAL_HST_230grn_45ACP_P_P45HST1__50_ROUNDS)

That's funny, Reti, that is the exact ammo that I was considering.
It has good resistance to clogging and excellent expansion.

yeah, the expansion on that one is sick. It's about the size of a quarter when it expands. Would NOT want to be shot with that for sure.
